Built in 1365, it was one of the most visited churches by the faithful mainly because of its location in the centre of town. Its strategic position and point of intersection of the four roads that meet, was chosen in 1575 as a point of reference for the limits of the four parochial jurisdictions. In 1745 the architect G.B.Amico rebuilt it giving it a marked borrominian style.
