PIAZZA UMBERTO I
At the end of the nineteenth century the square underwent several changes, it was enlarged, modifying its aspect. With the loss of the porticos and the tower of the “Giurato” building, it has assumed a regular geometric shape and is today’s municipal administrative seat. The adjacent building which hosts the public library and museum is the result of the changes brought to what was originally the city’s theatre. The library named after Vito Carvini contains over 20.000 volumes with ancient manuscripts and incunabulum. The “Antonio Cordici” Museum preserves precious testimonials of the millenary history of Erice.
