CHIESA DI SANT'EGIDIO - MUSEO DEL SATIRO

Fifteenth century architecture with both Arab and late Gothic elements, and an elegant cupola completed in 1578, hemispheric on the outside, creased on the inside, placed on an octagonal tambour, which, in the lower part melts into the prismatic space of the nave.
Satiro danzante- Dancing Satyr
Extremely rare example of a bronze Greek statue from the IV century B.C. with Prassitele and Scopadei influences, discovered in March 1998 by a fishing boat from Mazara in the Canal of Sicily, on a sea bed 500 metres deep. It represents a young satyr with pointed ears, taking part in the riotous procession which accompanied the God of wine Dionysus; he is dancing with the left leg lifted, the body turned and the arms open wide. The head, falling backwards and almost touching his shoulders, hair flowing in the wind, making him seem almost delirious. In the left hand he is carrying a goblet, tilted  because it is empty of wine, in the right, he holds a thyrsus cane
