SISTEMA DELLE PIAZZE

The centre of the ancient town is original in that it is made up of three main squares, Garibaldi, Umberto I and Cavour, connected and adjacent to each other. Originally it was one single square, which due to the increase of the surrounding buildings, in particular the Mother Church and the palazzo dei Principi, underwent reorganisation until it assumed the present layout. The spaces get narrower, then wider and divide making a suggestive interplay of spectacular effects that repeat themselves up to the Fontana della Ninfa which is the backdrop to piazza Umberto and piazza Garibaldi.
