FESTA DELLA MADONNA DI TAGLIAVIA

The impressive festivities last some days and  mix religion with folklore. The procession through the streets of the town with the Carro del vino e delle olive - wine and olive wagon, La cavalcata  – the horse ride, La carrozza del pane – the bread wagon, accompanied by people in costume representing the various social classes and the throwing of packets of wine, olives, hazelnuts; from the “Carrozza”, pulled by oxen decorated with garlands, Cuccidati, small doughnuts with jagged edges are thrown. In honour of the Madonna the wagons carry a noticeable letter M, known as the Nomi di Maria.
