TORRE TORRAZZO
The Torrazzo or “old tower” is a tower with a circular layout in large blocks of raw sandstone with a scarp base which has lost its crowning.
Dating back to the end of the XV century and the beginning of the XVI century, it was built on private initiative to defend an ancient tonnara (tuna net) which was cast into the sea in the place where the fishing port now exists. The Torrazzo wasn’t taken into consideration in the project for the circuit of watchtowers in the XVI century, because it was not considered high enough above sea level and it was not visible from the other towers.
